I co-founded a beauty tech brand on the Norwegian market, hair styling electronics, massage devices and beauty accessories, and took it from an idea to €800k in revenue. When paid channels got expensive, I built the acquisition machine that didn't depend on them.

the starting point
Paid social is a rising-cost game: every quarter the same euro buys less attention. And beauty tech is demo-driven, a curling hot-air dryer or a lighted makeup case has to be seen working to be wanted, which makes creative expensive to produce and competition fierce on every impression.
The challenge: how do you keep scaling when your main acquisition channels become expensive? We had to find acquisition methods that earned attention instead of renting it.
what actually moved the needle?
The market fundamentals were on our side: Norwegian online shoppers are among the world's biggest spenders, roughly €2,470 a year on average, and the 30-45 age bracket is the most active online buying group in the country. Exactly the beauty tech target.
The Norwegian beauty shelf splits in two: global premium imports at premium prices, or faceless drugstore products. Nobody owned the middle, a genuinely Norwegian, affordable option. That positioning became our edge: we weren't trying to outperform other brands creative-for-creative, we were the local, accessible choice in a market of expensive imports.
And our products were made for demonstration: a hair dryer with rotating sticks that curls as it dries, massage devices you can feel through the screen, a makeup case that lights up when it opens. Creators showing them at home, in Norwegian, made the positioning credible in a way no polished import campaign could imitate.
we didn't out-shout the big brands, we positioned as the affordable norwegian brand they couldn't be.
the marketing strategy
The catalog was deliberately demo-first: our top 3, the curling hair dryer, the massage device, and the lighted mirror makeup case, carried the brand, while we diversified around them with wigs, korean masks and makeup accessories to test new segments.
I built a structured creator outreach operation, identifying, contacting and managing Norwegian creators as a real acquisition channel, with briefs, deadlines and performance follow-up. €30k on influence campaigns plus continuous UGC sourcing. Paid stayed disciplined: my awareness-based testing matrix on Meta, TikTok and Snapchat kept the €300k+ budget accountable, the local positioning gave the ads their angle, creators gave them their proof, the matrix scaled what worked.
